Four Road Rage Accident Prevention Tips

Road Rage Accidents

When it comes to car accidents, road rage is one of the leading causes of accidents between motorists. These accidents can be incredibly serious and all motorists should want to avoid them. When on the road, here are four tips to try to avoid a road rage situation.

Report Dangerous Situations

Most states have a number that you can call if you see any dangerous behavior on the road. If you see an aggressive driver or someone who is putting you and other motorists in danger, then you need to call that hotline right away. If you are witness to one of these drivers, pull over to the side of the road and make the phone call. You should try to give as much of a detailed description as possible. List the driver’s behavior, car mode, license plate number if possible and the travel direction.

Try Stress Relief Exercises

One of the best ways to avoid road rage is to stay calm. Driving makes a lot of people anxious, particularly when they are dealing with traffic. If you start to feel irritated, try to calm yourself down. You can do this through breathing exercises or through calming music or maybe a mixture of both. If you have to take a longer trip, you may want to plan extra time into your drive so you can take a break for the day if you need to.

Keep Your Calm

If you want to avoid road rage, then you need to stay calm too. Sometimes other drivers will try to provoke you. You should strive to be a driver that maintains composure. If you retaliate or act aggressive in turn, you are going to escalate the situation and make it a lot worse.

Actively Protect Yourself

If an aggressive driver comes after you, it might be difficult not to lash out in retaliation. Never do this. Instead, if someone is becoming aggressive, do your best to put distance between you and the other motorist. Pull over on the shoulder and allow the other driver to pass you. If you are stuck in traffic, then make sure that all of your doors are locked, that your windows are up and try to remain far enough away or ensure you have enough room to pull out if the driver comes near your vehicle.

Road rage is never acceptable. While it may be understandable, it also puts other drivers at risk. With a few easy steps, it may be easier to keep calm in stressful traffic. For more information on road rage accidents, consult with a car accident attorney.
